How to make your post thumbnail appear on your homepage but not on your post page on blogger

Thumbnails serve as a major ingredient in providing a summary to your post. A captivating image can increase your engagement and increase your on-page SEO score. Wordpress has an option to choose a custom image as your post thumbnail unlike Blogger which automatically selects the first image in your post as the thumbnail. Sometimes we may wish to use an image as the thumbnail but do not want it to be part of our blog post. This is a feature Blogger lacks, but I will show you in this post how to add a custom thumbnail which will only be shown only on your homepage.

How to make your post thumbnail appear only on your Homepage

Step 1. Go to your blogger dashboard and click on Theme>>Edit HTML
Step 2. Click anywhere in the text area and press Ctrl F. Copy and paste ]]></b:skin> in the search box and hit the ENTER button.

Step 3. Just below the ]]></b:skin> you found in step 2, paste the CSS code shown below and Save your template

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType != "index"'>
display: none;

Now it is time to make a new post!

Step 4. Click on New Post to create a new post. Upload the image you wish to use as your thumbnail but do want to be shown in your blog post. Always make sure the image is the first image in your blog post as blogger picks the first image for thumbnails.

Step 5. Now switch your editor from COMPOSE to HTML to see the HTML version of your image. Change the "seperator" as highlighted in the image below to "hideimage" .

That's all! you can go back to COMPOSE and continue with your blog post. Publish your post and check out the result! You will see that the image only shows on your homepage instead of showing on both homepage and post page.
